We say: bring on the cold weather! Pending a little help from Mother Nature, Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure plans to have an ice skating pond this winter. Please note: this activity is based entirely on weather conditions, so it's best to call first (402-873-8717) to make sure the pond is open/available for skating. We appreciate your cooperation. The Nebraska Arborists Association (NAA) is hosting the Great Plains Tree Conference on February 5-7, 2011, at Lied Lodge & Conference Center in Nebraska City. The public is welcome to register and attend this conference. This conference is an opportunity to provide continuing education sessions about tree care and arboriculture practices. Attendees have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, network with arborists, meet with vendors to learn about the latest products and services available, and bid on silent auction items. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit NAA’s education fund, which provides scholarships and continuing education opportunities to NAA members and others interested in pursuing a career in arboriculture. The Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society is hosting the Rural Advantage & Healthy Farms Conference, Feb. 10-11, 2011, at Lied Lodge & Conference Center in Nebraska City, NE. Conference attendees will hear from experts, university faculty, and fellow ag colleagues about sustainable farming methods, new and innovative ways to expand their current farming operations, and how to develop ideas and projects for greatest impact in their communities -- all while practicing and promoting conservation. A variety of interactive opportunities are available for adults and youth, including educational sessions, keynote presentations, round-table discussions, and commercial and educational exhibits. Discover something new every season at Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure. Here you can hike miles of forested trails, climb a 50-foot-tall treehouse, embark on the guided Discovery Ride, and play and learn in the Nature Explore Classroom. Olympic-sized indoor pool at Lied Lodge

Whether you swim laps or just splash around, all guests are welcome in the olympic-sized indoor pool. Take a relaxing soak in the Jacuzzi or steam away stress in the red cedar sauna. Young swimmers will appreciate the separate baby pool, just 18" deep. The pool is open daily from 6:30am to 11:00pm, and is reserved exclusively for Lied Lodge guests.

You'll take the Discovery Ride to our Preservation Orchard, home to more than 60 unusual apple varieties. Stroll through the historic orchard to smell the blossoms in April, or -- in season -- pick an heirloom variety and taste apple goodness no longer available in grocery stores. A Nature Interpreter enhances your experience with information about our living genetic repository for future food sources in changing climates. Available April through October.

Commemorate your event or a special occasion by planting your own tree at Arbor Day Farm. The ceremony includes a tree (ranging 4-feet to 7-feet tall) -- choose from 67 different species -- with a small plaque describing the tree and the person or event being honored. Shovels and mulch provided. The arborist team at Arbor Day Farm will provide ongoing care for your living monument. Available April through November.
Legacy of the Land Tour

An excellent choice for bus tours passing through, this guided tour shares the history of Arbor Day Farm, including an introduction to the Morton Family and the beginnings of Arbor Day, the tree planters' holiday. Available year round.
Tree Identification Tour

Gain a new appreciation for trees. This tour begins with tree identification instruction, then stroll the Tree House Trail with your Nature Interpreter, learning tips and tricks to identify trees by their bark, shape, seeds, fruit, and leaves.
