Calling all artists!

Arbor Day Farm is seeking proposals from artists interested in creating nature-inspired outdoor art as part of the ongoing Art in the Woods installation at Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure. Up to six (6) artist proposals will be selected, with a $2,000 stipend awarded per work. Once selections are made, final installation of the art must be complete by June 15, 2012.

At Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure

We say: bring on the cold weather! Pending a little help from Mother Nature, Arbor Day Farm Tree Adventure plans to have an ice skating pond this winter.

As long as the ice is firm, you're invited to skate with us during regular Tree Adventure hours -- Monday through Saturday, 10am - 5pm; Sundays, 11am - 5pm. Bring your own skates or borrow from our selection of sizes. Access to the skating pond and skate use is included with your Tree Adventure admission.

Please note: this activity is based entirely on weather conditions, so it's best to call first (402-873-8717) to make sure the pond is open/available for skating. We appreciate your cooperation. Cold weather, don't delay!

The Nebraska Arborists Association (NAA) is hosting the Great Plains Tree Conference on February 5-7, 2011, at Lied Lodge & Conference Center in Nebraska City. The public is welcome to register and attend this conference.

This conference is an opportunity to provide continuing education sessions about tree care and arboriculture practices. Attendees have the opportunity to learn from industry experts, network with arborists, meet with vendors to learn about the latest products and services available, and bid on silent auction items. Proceeds from the silent auction benefit NAA’s education fund, which provides scholarships and continuing education opportunities to NAA members and others interested in pursuing a career in arboriculture.

The Nebraska Sustainable Agriculture Society is hosting the Rural Advantage & Healthy Farms Conference, Feb. 10-11, 2011, at Lied Lodge & Conference Center in Nebraska City, NE.

Conference attendees will hear from experts, university faculty, and fellow ag colleagues about sustainable farming methods, new and innovative ways to expand their current farming operations, and how to develop ideas and projects for greatest impact in their communities -- all while practicing and promoting conservation. A variety of interactive opportunities are available for adults and youth, including educational sessions, keynote presentations, round-table discussions, and commercial and educational exhibits.
