Back by popular demand: it's Scout Day at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City.

Arbor Day Farm is a great place for scouts of all ages to explore, learn, and earn badges, and a variety of facilitated and self-guided badge workshops are available FREE with your Tree Adventure admission on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Scout Day Guided Activities Include:

Tree Sleuth — Using a Tree Identification Guide, learn to identify trees by their leaves, bark, and fruit. Then take to the trails and see what trees are growing at Arbor Day Farm.

  • Tree Sleuth activity qualifies for the following badges: Webelos Forester Badge, Boy Scout Forestry Merit Badge, Cadette Trees Badge

Owl Pellet Dissection — Can you determine what the owl ate? Dissect an owl pellet and identify skulls, teeth, and other bones to determine what — or who! — the owl had for dinner.

  • Owl Pellet activity qualifies for the following badge: Junior Animal Habitats Badge

Unnatural Hike — Use your keen observation skills to find items that do not belong in nature. Search high and low for 20 hidden, “unnatural” items along the South Table Creek Trail.

  • Unnatural Hike activity qualifies for the following badge: Brownie Senses Badge

Nature: Fact or Fiction — Some of the most common claims about animals in nature are not actually true ... or are they? Learn the truth from fiction as you become a mythbuster of nature.

  • Fact or Fiction activity qualifies for the following badges: Tiger Cub Scout Electives; Bear Scout Country Achievements, Junior Animals Badge

Five-Minute Ice Cream — With just a few ingredients, a Ziploc bag, and five minutes of your time, you can make your very own ice cream.

  • Five-Minute Ice Cream activity — no badges, just fun.

And Also:

Discovery Rides: Climb aboard the Discovery Ride for a guided journey into the orchards and forest. Watch and listen as Nature Interpreters share conservation practices and fun historical trivia. Rides depart hourly from 11am — 3pm; additional admission required for the Discovery Ride.

Preservation Orchard: This collection of rare apple trees is an Arbor Day Farm exclusive. Find an assortment of apples that are no longer commercially available; you‘ll be amazed at their color, shape, and interesting histories.
